Fourteen years after departing their war torn Somalia, Hibo Jama and Zak Ahmed have found decent and affordable home in which to raise their children.
In partnership with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, the Ankeny Circle of Faith, along with Wells Fargo, completed Jama and Ahmed’s new home at 1710 12th Street in Des Moines. The home was dedicated January 23rd, 2005.
The Ankeny Circle of Faith, an interdenominational coalition of churches, began the project in September during “Building on Faith Week,” when their volunteers framed, roofed and sided the three-bedroom ranch house in five days. Church volunteers continued to work Saturdays on the project, with help from Wells Fargo volunteers and others.
Ahmed, who works for the Des Moines International Airport, and Jama, who works for Express Labor, worked alongside the volunteers to build a decent home in which to raise their two children.
“These projects with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity provide us with a means to put our faith into action, making a tangible impact on the lives of good people in need of a hand up,” Brendalyn Shird, a Habitat board member and Circle of Faith volunteer. This is the second housing project for the Ankeny Circle of Faith, the first was in 2002.
