General Position Summary:

The ReStore Driver Assistant is responsible for accurately and promptly assisting in all aspects of donations pick ups.  Using all safety precautions, proper procedures and common sense in a friendly and helpful manner.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Contact donor to verify times and locations
  2. Assist with the pick up donations and inventory as assigned
  3. Inspect donations carefully and enforce requirements tactfully
  4. Keep appropriate records / Input data into database
  5. Keep truck and equipment in clean working order
  6. Work with volunteers assigned to assist in large item pickups
  7. Make deliveries as assigned
  8. Help clean, sort, price and stock incoming inventory
  9. Load / unload donations and sold merchandise
  10. Assist in preparing merchandise for display
              

 

Requirements:

Describes the minimum education and experience, certifications, licenses, physical demands, working conditions and skill sets needed to perform the job

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs. – tested with physical capacity profile
  • Valid Driving License with clean record (prefer CDL)
  • All applicants need to pass criminal background check

 General Position Summary: 

A ReStore Associate helps process donations, load and unload items, and assist customers as needed.  Tasks include cleaning, pricing, stocking, and rearranging items, in addition to providing friendly customer service at all times.  Works to ensure that customers and donors have a positive experience at the ReStore; this includes providing friendly customer service, assisting in loading purchases and unlading donations, operating the cash register, cleaning/organizing/arranging displays, and pricing items.  

  1. Build and maintain positive relationships with customers by providing high-quality customer service
  2. Answer customer questions regarding the ReStore in general and specific items
  3. Ensure that all areas of the store/warehouse are safe, clean, and organized
  4. Guard against theft and unsafe practices (clutter, tripping hazards, falling objects, etc.)
  5. Operate cash register to ring up customers
  6. Assist with the receiving of inventory
  7. Assist Customers with purchases – lifting, carrying and loading
  8. Move materials from warehouse to store floor
  9. Evaluate condition/acceptability of incoming donations
  10. Price materials to be sold
  11. Display merchandise in a way that maximizes sales
  12. Supervise volunteers as assigned

Communications Guru -  aka Director of Communications

General Position Description:

The Director of Communications will work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement communication strategies to broaden the impact of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s programs and oversee organizational messaging.  The Director of Communications will guide those strategies for all communications, website, social media, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s mission and priorities.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Develop communications strategies in collaboration with senior leadership that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact.
  2. Develop and refine GDM Habitat’s “core” messages to ensure organizational consistency.
  3. Oversee organizational messaging and branding.
  4. Connect stakeholders to mission with stories that demonstrate GDM Habitat’s impact through photos, video, written and in-person.
  5. Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, social media, and GDM Habitat’s website.
  6. Coordinate internal and external webpage maintenance to ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.
  7. Manage all media relations including press releases, earned media opportunities and media inquiries.
  8. Coordinate and track community outreach.
  9. Support special projects as needed.
  10. Oversee marketing activities for all areas of organization.  Marketing activities will be appropriate in scale for nonprofit and include close collaboration with Habitat ReStore leadership.

Requirements:

  • Five years equivalent of communication, marketing, public relations experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex nonprofit, and covering areas such as website content, media relations, newsletters, and donor communications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent.
  • An ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Significant communications experience that includes a blend of relationship building and media relations
  • Proficient in software skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, basic graphic design, and presentation tools. Proficient in Associated Press style.
  • Ability to coach and support senior leaders as spokespersons
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong belief in GDM Habitat’s mission
