Core Crew members work on site under the supervision of our Construction Managers. They guide, teach, and engage small groups of unskilled or semi-skilled volunteers.
Construction skills are not prerequisites to begin as a Habitat Core Crew member. In fact, most current members come from fields other than construction. As long as you are willing to help others, we’ll teach you what you need to know.
For more information about becoming part of the Core Crew please contact
Tami at 515-471-8686 ext. 120.
We have built a basic construction manual that explains each part of Habitat home construction and allows us to schedule training days on site whenever you finish a section. By the end, you will be able to demonstrate tasks, maintain Habitat standards, monitor safety, and help volunteers have a meaningful experience. You have the unique opportunity to develop construction and leadership skills while making a difference in your community. As we continue to grow and serve more hardworking, low-income families in the Greater Des Moines area, the need for Habitat leaders becomes absolutely essential.Training
