Whether you’re new to Habitat or you’re a veteran volunteer, we know you may have questions about your upcoming volunteer opportunity. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to find answers to many of the most common questions we receive from volunteers.
Our Core Crew work on site under the supervision of our Construction Managers. They guide, teach, and engage small groups of unskilled or semi-skilled volunteers. Think, volunteer on steroids.
Construction skills are not a prerequisite to begin as a Habitat Core Crew member. In fact, most current members came from fields other than construction. As long as you’re willing to help others, we’ll teach you what you need to know.
For more information about becoming part of the Core Crew please contact
Tami at 515-471-8686 ext. 120 or by email at email@example.com.
We have built a basic construction manual that explains each part of Habitat home construction and allows us to schedule training days on site whenever you finish a section. By the end, you will be able to demonstrate tasks, maintain Habitat standards, monitor safety, and help volunteers have a meaningful experience. You have the unique opportunity to develop construction and leadership skills while making a difference in your community. As we continue to grow and serve more hardworking, low-income families in the Greater Des Moines area, the need for Habitat leaders becomes absolutely essential.Training
